Welcome to my web site!

www.bobmayes.com

This Web site was set up for the purpose of letting my family and  friends ( those interested in my Bird Photography) have an opportunity to view  some of my more interesting and recent photos.

Photography has been a hobby of mine for over 45 years.   After my retirement in June of 2000 I discovered digital photography and have never looked back to those days of film and chemicals.

Back in September of 2003 I bought a Canon 300D Digital Rebel .  In January 2005 I added a Canon 55 - 200 mm lens which was the lens that I photographed my first bird, the Great Gray Owl. This was my introduction to "Birding".

After purchasing a few books on birding,  I  quickly learned that there are so many different and interesting birds to photograph and many of them were in my own backyard.

This was the beginning of my new hobby  -"Bird Photography".  My wife sometimes thinks I've gone too far because I'm always looking at a new camera or lens and sometimes I even disappear for a complete day of birding (she likes that).   One good thing about birding is the great people we have met and the new places we have found to view and photograph those special birds. (She does come along occasionally.)

Here is a list of my major photo equipment as of  April 1, 2012.
